spark jumping???

Postby rwd_mayhem » Mon Feb 20, 2006 1:07 pm

in my ae70 my 3a-u is playing up, you can hear sparking when listening to the motor, and it is causing the car to lurch when driving. what could be the possible causes? its electronic ignition so no points, it sounds as though it could be coming from the coil? ill look at it at night sometime and see if i can see the spark newhere.

Could be the leads earthing, if they've been rubbing on something the insulation could be worn down.

make sure the boots on either end of the leads are in good nick. if the leads arn't fully insulated, they can arc arcoss to find earth.

now, when the car is on(not running) the coil is making a frying noise like its making spark when it shudnt be, what is wrong with it?
is it something to do with electronic ignition?

Yes.

that is normally a sign of the module/igniter playing up.

Postby rwd_mayhem » Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:37 pm

i looked at it at night, the sparking is between the lead and the coil, when i touched tht lead it glowed around my finger, when i took the lead off it stopped sparking. is that module/igniter playing up?
