Fusebox earth

Postby johntramp » Fri Feb 24, 2006 3:50 pm

Hey I am wiring a new loom into my car and I plan on running 2 fuse boxes for the time being to save having to redo all the headlight relays etc.

One problem I have found tho is wiring up the starter relay there is a VERY weak connection from the relay's coil to the earth, ie 100+ ohms. Should there be a direct earth from the fuse box? As I have only the loom for the engine I am only using around half the plugs into the base of the fuse box, so I am guessing I am possible missing an earth from the other half of the car's loom. Am I right here?

Cheers

100Ohm sounds like impeadance of relay, are you sure you are measuring from the right end?

Hey, this is the impeadance of the socket, where the -ve from the relay's coil would plug in to, to the car's chasis when the fuse has been removed. This was higher than 100 Ohms, probably more like 1000+ actually. The wire which comes out the base of the fuse box which connects to that socket is a small black one which goes up into the loom. I do not know where it goes after that tho.
