I've been considering the possibility of adapting some/all of an Altezza gauge cluster into my SW20. Because it looks cool, has the electric speedo cable already (to suit the sensor already in my new gbox) and it has the revised tachometer signal wiring. (Apparently I need to change my tacho mechanism to one from a 97+ car)
I figure I could kill a few birds with one stone, if I could make an Altezza one fit. (Or, cut out the Altezza bits, and make them fit in an SW20 gauge cluster, & wire them up)
However, before I outlay an exorbitant amount of cash for an Altezza gauge cluster, I have a few questions.
Is the wiring format similar, between various Toyotas?
Or will it be near impossible, for me to find out which signal is which?
From what I can tell, the wiring to the back of the gauge cluster will consist of signals for the following:
tacho
water temp
voltage gauge
speedo
lighting
High beams signal
Engine problem light
oil light
indicators
Seat belt light (redundant)
Hrmm, I suppose that's more than I first anticipated.

Does Toyota have a standard wiring scheme for all of these things though? eg. earths are all black, oil light signal is a purple wire with a white stripe, etc. etc.... Or is it going to be more complicated than that?
Thanks
