3SGTE Alternator dying

Postby Wildcard » Sat Apr 15, 2006 4:19 am

I have a power problem all of a sudden, coming home ABS light comes on and engine idle goes lumpy, watching the volt meter its right at the bottom in the low voltage area [thanks Toyota for not putting useful numbers on this guage!].

Now I will check major ground points in the morning but I suspect my alternator is on its way out - whats my best options in Auckland, take the alternator somewhere to get fixed or buy a second hand one from a wrecker? I assume a Gen2 alternator will bolt up?

If its not just the brushes, which is a cheap enough fix to diy, then sourcing a second hand unit will probably work out next cheapest...but then again, at least in theory, if you get yours rebuilt, it should last.

Check to see if the belt is slipping first, tighten your belt up first.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
