4AGE Oil level

Postby Linden » Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:54 pm

I recently had a overhauled 4age put in my ae82 fxgt.
The thing is it had 3L of oil put in it, the book says 3L or 3.2L (i think?),
On the dipstick it comes up about 5cm above the full mark,
Should i be running it at this level and just keep it topped up to that mark? or have it with less than 3L at the proper full mark on the dipstick? (i'd need to do alot of oil changes if it was like that wouldnt i? or is it not healthy to do that?)

I may aswell ask while im at it, the other thing is my fuel guage, if the tank is above 1/3rd full it doesnt display correctly, will i just have to pull it out at the tank and check if its not sticky or broken/replace it, or could it be a problem from something else?

Sure you have the right dipstick for it and that it didn't have oil in it already? 5cm is a good couple of litres extra and there is no way on earth you'd want to try running it with just one litre of oil. The definitely need at least 3L in there. I'd be making sure its the right dipstick, or draining it all completely of oil and trying it again with 3 litres (or measuring how much you can drain out)

^^ what he said about the oil.
or possibly a different sump

As for the fuel gauge, the float probably has a leak in it, so is full of petrol and doesn't float.

i went to the wreckers and compared my dipstick and it was the same length, so unless he gave me the wrong one it may have the wrong sump or something on it?
is there a serial number on the sump i could check, or serial for the dipstick?

it was drained and refilled after we noticed the dipstick level so it had 3L in it, so it does have the correct amount of oil in it.

ill check out the fuel guage on the weekend, and hopefully it'll just be replacing the float/or the whole guage mechanism
