Threaded sump

Postby eddiewould » Thu Apr 20, 2006 8:20 pm

Hey, I was in a bit of a rush doing an oil change and didn't completely wait for the last dribbles of oil to drain out before replacing the bolt. Although the bolt feels tight now, I've now got an oil leak which I didn't have before :( I think I must have threaded where the bolt goes in.

Is this fixable and if so roughtly how much can I expect to pay and where should I take it?

Cheers

If the plug is nipping up tight Id say you just need to replace the plug washer, sump washers are available at repco stores, redrain the oil into a clean container so you can reuse it.

Thread does not seal the sump, washer does. As above.

Hi this might sound like a stupid question, but:

Should the washer be clean or oiled before you replace the sump plug?

I put some oil on either side of it before replacing the bolt, could this be what the problem is?

Cheers

yeah clean is good, oil on it wont matter though, If you use a fibre washer dont overtigten it as they split, just screw up untill it gets firm and then just nip up a little
