take bonnett off. unplug/remove wires etc, drain fluids. Remove radiator. Undo/unplug shafts- which can mean undoing lower ball joints to ease pulling out.support engine with tackle and remove mounts, pull out.
If you can do on a rwd, can do on a fwd.
unless, when you say you dont have the ability to lift in the air, you also mean you cant lift the engine...then theres a problem.

You may find its a lot easier to drop the subframe... thats how they install them in the factory, and thats my prefered way of getting FWD motors out, having tried both ways. the block and tackle will easily lift the front end of the car off the ground far enough to slide the motor and box etc out. just need to find a nice long strap to wrap around something solid while you do it.

just make sure you have disconnected ALL the electrical bits first, dont forget the oxy sensor and the cat temp sensor if you have those!

i take out and put in my engine from under the car too. just jack car up, block wheels, block up jack, jack up car etc until high enough to slide motor out underneath.

yeah, I do both ways also, but quite honestly dont find either particularly difficult or more time consuming than one another.
