FWD toyota springs... what fits what?

Postby KinLoud » Fri Apr 21, 2006 8:59 pm

Just doing a bit of homework for improving my 20v Marino's handling.
About to replace shocks and springs.
I would like to know if diesel corolla springs have a higher spring rate? If anyone has access to a diesel corolla and a set of calipers... please measure the spring thickness (should be between 12 and 15mm).

Also - has anyone found springs from different toyotas that fit onto the AE101 corolla front or rear struts?
Thanks

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

probably good to get some spring reference from
http://www.kingsprings.com/
maybe some of the parts numbers are the same with other Toyota, hence they use the same springs....?

Thanks guys - not looking to lower the car much if at all, just want it a bit firmer in the ride department.
All donations of unwanted toyota springs will be most welcome.

King springs that were in my GT-T were the same physical size as my AE111 Dobi Sport and my GT-T Teins

note that coil spacing and number of coils were different

also note that the Kings in the GT-T were not designed for a caldina, they were listed as fitting AE92/100/101/111 and some others

Yea Jason has a set of King springs in his Caldina that was listed for an AE chassis and they were shit.

They were soft and bouncy and in the space of I think it would have been 6 months the sagged down that much that he could not get a warrant anymore.

Stay away from them. Go for some Tein springs. Good quality at a good price. Hopefully they make something that can fit a Marino?

thats why i put the Teins in mine, so much better now

was a rough bouncy piece of poo on the kings,
plus made it sit too low (for practicality, however it looked mint)

after you put the teins in, or with the kings? if with the teins was it just a bit annoying for a daily driver, but good handling, or was it just really bad?

how much heavier is a caldina than a corolla? of course the light little corolla spring will make it handle bad

so a caldina spring should be a good upgrade for the marino?

Spent yesterday afternoon at Pick a part otahu playing mix and match.

- Diesel corolla front springs seem to be the same as 4afe corolla springs.
- Rear ST182 springs fit pretty well into corolla rear struts - the spring wire is thicker but the coil diameter is bigger so the spring rate is about 15 to 20% higher.
- Front ST182 springs won't fit into front corolla struts as the bottom coil diameter is about 10mm too big.

I see on the King spring website that ST162 springs are the same part number as corolla springs - I will have to find a set of front springs to see if they will fit into corolla struts.
Anyone got a set spare?

Good hunting so far Ken,

When you find a approx std height + firmer spring for the front and back tell me, this will be a cheap compromise gravel + track setup..
