Fuel system for 3tgte swap?

Postby toyrota mota » Sun May 07, 2006 11:59 pm

Hi there ive been asking afew questions recently about putting a 3tgte into my 79 corona wagon currently with a 3t in it. Ok so almost got everything together for this swap, now i need some help with the fuel system.
Firstly i want to know what are some cheap fuel pumps i can use, i plan to run a surge tank so will need a lifter pump and a high pressure pump and want the fuel system to be able to surrport about 200-220hp.
Secondly how do i set up the fuel system, so far i plan to have another hole drilled in the tank and a fitting welded on for the fuel rail return line, then use the standard fuel line as the return line then run a new larger fuel line. what size should i make this new line and how do you make new fuel lines and attach them?
Cheers
Campbell
P.s. if i have got the wrong idea about what to do with my fuel system feel free to correct me

just buy some 10mm thick line from your local engineers etc., then bend it up to suit, i used galvanised steel stuff, but its fairly tough to bend

definately get a larger fitting for the tank like your planning on doing

as far as a lift pump goes, just about anything will do, i used an old electric pump from a te71

as far as the main pump, if your after large hp use an aftermarket pump like a walbro one or something

otherwise just a dirty ol vl commodore inline pump will do the trick

Do you just bend it by hand? It doesnt crush the pipe does it? And how do i make the little ridges at the ends of the pipe to make the hose hold on.
Can i use a internal fuel pump as and external?
Sorry if these questions seem stupid im new to all this.
Cheers

no you can't use an internal pump as an external, at least not easily

yep bend the pipes by hand, just be careful about it, go slowly, try bend it around your knee

as far as the little ridges on the end, you can buy flaring kits from repco etc., or just shove the rubber line on as far as you can and put on two hose clamps, will still do the trick

you could either just use the original line mounts, or you can buy wee bracket things (like a half circle with rubber inside) and drill smallholes under the car and screw it on with the brackets, which is probably the easiest way because then you don't have to bend it to exactly the same shape as the original lines
