Copper headgasket?

Postby RS13 » Thu May 18, 2006 7:11 pm

Hi guys,

An associate just purchased a copper headgasket for his 3T turbo, to replace the factory one he had before.

It is a wee bit thicker, so would obviously drop the compression a tad, would this affect the Link tune noticeably? I'd assume it would run super lean?

Could anyone tell me how much better the copper version is over the factory one? The block has been 'o' ringed. Would the copper one last longer?

Dropping the compression shouldn't change the mixture at all. it'll just take the engine a little bit further away from detonation and slighty lower the efficency of the motor. (but you can up the boost a bit for more power)

Copper gaskets are usually reserved for higher boost applications. not sure if they will last any longer than a standard headgasket under standard condtions but they tolerate high boost better/longer.
