Copper Head Gasket

Postby sergei » Wed May 24, 2006 3:48 pm

Right, little intro: My mate (and me) is building a turbo cynos (5EFHE + Glanza V turbo/ex. manifold etc). Problem is that after flushing cooling system we noticed that we have bubles coming from radiator. Measured compression 14.5 bar (+/- 0.5) in every cyl. Right, blown head gasket in early stages (bubles stop coming straight after turning off the engine).
Since we are going to pull out the head to do a head gasket job, best to put some thick gasket insteat, the trouble is that TRD gasket is even thinner than stock, and I can't get aftermarket one for 4/5E engine. So we found a place wich will make a custom one out of copper (they specialise in custom gaskets)... The thing is I never done any copper ones, and after some search on the net, I found that we have low chances of it sealing it properly without O-ringing the block. Can some one please confirm this? I'm really interested what other people here done with their copper head gasket, and what are the results...

Ive tryed to use a copper gasket on my 4k. The block was only slightly warpd (cant rember how far out as was a while ago). It wouldnt seal and blew bubbles into the radiator. The block has to be straight and true if your going to use a copper gasket.
Is the place your talking about just north of kumeu? Custom gaskets i think? hes a good guy.
