Does any1 have a 1UZ hilux? gearbox removal questions

Postby pj_jimbo » Wed May 24, 2006 2:21 pm

iv got the orange Quest4 V8 ute, getting the gearbox out is pretty hard with the clearence of the big bellhousing,

do people with similar setups split the box from the adaptor or take the box and bellhousing out as one? I dont think the latter way works looking at the room available

ne help would b good cheers

have you tried tilting the engine back? you may have to drop the exhaust and or use a jack on the front of the engine to do this.
Have you tried asking Quest4 how they did it in the first place?

This can be the case with many newer rwd's, so give that a go. Just be aware of the clearance of the back of the head, and any associated water pipes around there.
Cant believe im still a member here.

And older ones too! anyone whos worked on a 1600 escort will know what i mean :D

It won't apply to the hilux of course, but often dropping the front (engine)crossmember down (and letting it hang a little on rack/pipes etc) will give the extra 20mm required.
Also revolving the gearbox so the starter bulge misses the tunnel can help (although Im not sure that this will help a 1uz)

thanks guys yea will try dropping the engine a bit and see how i get on, i think the starter bulge is in the valley between the banks which gives it a lower profile on the bellhousing, smart thinking toyota! :D

i would love to contact Quest4 n hav a chat to them bout the ute, but i think they are out of business now, does ne1 know if thats a rhumor or not??

They've been out of business for months.
