i don't believe the cranks are different, but being an auto, there is stress placed on them, especially in Drive at intersections. whereas in a manual, the clutch would be depressed, removing such loading??

take a look at subaru crank, it is completely differnt to I4 one, really thin to start with...

Its common for the end of a subaru crank to brake, but not like this. Not that ive seen anyway.
