KP61 Auto-manual conversion

Postby Hachiroku » Fri Jun 02, 2006 9:50 pm

I'm helping my mate with a manual conversion on his Starlet and we've run into a problem - the gearbox mount doesn't line up where it should. It is about 10cm too far forward to line up with the holes under the car. Is this normal? What's the best solution?

We've got a k40 from a Starlet and a k40 from a KE70 and the mounts are both in the same place, but the auto is different.

Yep, auto mounts are different. You can try swapping g/box x-members over, though when we did it we couldnt get the bloody thing off. Ended up just custom making a x-member
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Had the same problem with my conversion (GA-70 tho).

As been said, auto and manual X-members are slightly differant, wat i did was machined out two pieces of plate steel, about 8mm thick painted them black, popped them in.

The new points are only ~10mm away from the vulcrom so theres hardly any leverage, so its plenty strong enough (probably stronger than the orginal), i've gone through warrants fine and 5,000+km later shes still humming away speaks for its effectiveness.
