Postby diss7 » Fri Jun 02, 2006 6:39 pm

What should I expect to pay for a aftermarket light flywheel?

I understand theres Aluminium and Chromoly, what are the price differences?

Flywheel is for a 4age. THanks

alloy....dont bother, not worth the "hope this holds" factor on a piss arse 1600, imagine telling your grandkids that you lost your foot due to a 1600cc 4 cylinder, that would suck.
cromoly, yep safe and light for 4age, can get 3.5kg flys for these no problem, any lighter you just being silly anyways

So is aluminium safe for larger cars? I had no idea that they are more likely to come off; makes you wonder how they can sell them.

Aluminium flywheels are safe providing you buy a decent one that is made of high grade material (6000 or preferably 7000 series aluminium) & it's fitted properly with new bolts etc. In saying this you can easily get a steel flywheel done to the same or similar weight & generally speaking a steel flywheel is usually cheaper than an aluminium one. I'd also prefer having a steel one, just cause I'd feel safer in knowng that a steel flywheel is in there & that no steel friction insert or similar can come loose & because we've run steel flywheels for ages without any hassles so why change. Most flywheels that I've seen either come loose or disintregate have been due to incorrect fitment or excessive lightening & this goes for steel, cast iron, Aluminium etc.

I can get you one made up custom - cro-mo - whatever weight and configuration you need, for around (maybe under) $600.

PM me if you're interested, we get them made fairly often for twin plate applications.
