What the hell? Supra randomly not starting...

Postby Quint » Tue Jun 20, 2006 1:23 pm

Replaced my knock sensors and tightened up all the belts and done a general check of the complete car, ran a diag and got the 'all clear' sign, so i say 'awesome' i'll start the car let it warm up and then see what she has to say...

Turn the key and.... nothing, can hear the fuel pump charging and the electronics whizzing but no love wat-so-ever, sounds like the starter motor has given up the ghost, but as i've been no were near it, i can't see how it could have been knocked or whatever, checked over all the areas i was in, and everythings all good, just wont start :/

Anyone got any idea why shes being such a hater?

battery in? :P and charged?

While holding the key to start, check for voltage at the starter relay.

First place i'd look.

maybe the wire has come out of the starter?

no noises at all when you turn to the start position of the key - like a click or anything?

how long since you have had the car not going? might be a bad battery? :/

Thought of dead battery first, its been up on axel stands for a grand total of 6 hours, battery still well charged (go go Voltmeter). If it was a dead battery it'd probably atleast go whirr click.

Is the car auto or manual????

I've had the occasional problem where the auto selector, although in PARK, did not "start" and worked once I was in NEUTRAL. It's just bad contacts within the selector switch module on the side of the auto.

May not be this but worth knowing.

Hehe is a manual, so thats out.

Got it started, _JUST_ took like 10 cranks and when i was about to give up and find out what went wrong, it started, like a full second after i had stopped cranking, the starter motor had even stopped, was crazy.

Turns out that after following the entire loom around, a little plug going into a mysterious black box on the fire wall had come loose. No idea what it is, or what it does, but i know you need it to start the car :/
