Whats this on my fuel pump?

I just brought this fuel pump its out of a V8 VN commy and was just wondering what that little sort of pressure regulator on the left of the pump is?

It is probably a fuel pressure pulsation damper. It smooths out the flow from the pump for a more even pressure to the fuel rail.

So when i hook this up should i keep it, is the engine going to run better with it? or just bin it? Also im guessing the pulsation damper is on the outlet?

I binned mine.

Outlet is the terminal side.
The answer is Helmholtz!
