Blown Head gasket...what I do I need to do?

Postby no_8wire » Wed Jul 12, 2006 8:13 pm

I have a engine which I got for free, but it has a blown head gasket. I want to use the head on another engine, but what do I need to check before I can use it? Would a BHG cause warpage etc?

By the way it is a bluetop 4age...

in some cases yes, your head could be warped.
best bet is to take it off, remove manifolds and all accessories.

Take it into a decent reconditioner and get them to check it.
Plane will cost abotu $60

you can get it dipped, bead blasted etc, but probably not worth it, unless you are rebuilding it.

well in that case, you should do what ive just gone through
The head has been hot tanked and bead blasted. The valve seats have been lapped. The deck has been skimmed (ready for HKS mhg) The cams have been polished. valve grind.
all up cost me less than $500 looks a million dollars now too

hey
My mate is taking care of the engine for me.
I dropped off the 7mgte and hes taking care of things for me.

I could find out where he's been getting the machine work done tho for you if you like.

that cost was with the head given to them in bits, i think.

You will save money if you disassemble it yourself.
