Turbo'd 4agze reliability as track car?

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Mon Jul 31, 2006 2:42 pm

I'm going to use my Turbo'd 4agze as a track car, but I'm also planning to run higher boost later on. Currently 13psi.

It is a stock early 4agze bigport. So I gather it doesn't have the oil squirters or the oil drain from the head.

How reliable have people found these to be? Should I look at getting a baffled sump or an oil cooler or should it be alright?

Any suggestions or comments welcome.

You might want to have a look at getting a oil drain tapped in, because if your at high revs alot, that head is going to fill up quite quickly with oil, spewing it out your breather and taking it away from the bottom end..

I know, cause mine does this too :P

Can't comment on the rest though...

if your going on the track i'd definately recomend getting an oil cooler. and no it wont have oil squirters. only reason i have them now is using a silvertop block. reliable, lol, all in the tuning.

Well, the need for an oil cooler will depend on the length of the circuit. If you are doing sprint events (only a few laps), then there really isnt a need.

You will want to baffle the sump being FWD. :)

yeah, but more ofter than not your going to be doing more than a few laps, and how many race cars have oil coolers? especially turbo ones that would tend to run hotter than a n/a, prevention is the best method.

Why FWD?

But yeah thats what I was thinking, I'll have to find someone confident in welding the sump..and not burning holes though it.

Murphy's Law says I'll break it before getting this done

Boost is a terrible thing you know, it makes you greedy! lol.

I'll get bored of this car ...want more capacity and more boost... ie an evo or a 200sx get bored of that... then I'll want to turbo a 1uz or something! It could be the tow vehicle?

Damn it would have to retard ignition a lot to do that here on pump gas safely! Te 993TT and new 997 turbo (and possibly 968 Turbo S) have to be the two / three best Porsche's of all time performance and style wise.
