Oil smoke from driving?

Postby RS13 » Thu Aug 10, 2006 1:13 am

Asking on behalf,

Say car "A", when driven hard, doesn't smoke or smell of oil at all, however under hard braking from say, 50km/h, or holding revs momentarily at 6000rpm, causes the cabin to smell strongly of burning oil? The dipstick shows the oil level to be about 1/3 overfull, would this be causing it? The lateral force on the motor under brakes must cause the oil to do something, but what? Even rolling at idle from 50 to stop, you get the smell.. car doesn't seem to be burning oil, or blowing smoke..

Ideas? Is this just due to it being slightly overfull?

if the engine is overfilled combined with high rpm and no load, there is high vaccum which sucks extra oil mist from crank case into intake, and burning through, exiting through exhaust. The reason why you smell it inside cabin, is that when you brake you decelerate, while exhaust gases continue moving due to inertia, reaching the cabin, hence the smell...
Also it could be due to worn intake valve stems/stem seals (similar reason - high vacuum will suck oil through the stem seals )..

Drain oil to factory "full" level, cleaned out breather hose, problem solved. Revs a lot cleaner now too.
