4agze 8.9 or 8.0 comp?

Hi fellas,

had a search and couldnt find what I was after.
Im looking at buying a 4agze but the owner doesnt know if its a hi compression ae101 or a low compression one?
can anybody tell me if there is anyway of identifying which one it is? cause my motor has been cooked and I need a hi compression one. ae101 gtz levin thankyou

is it just the engine? or is it in the car. there is heaps of stuff on this subject on toyspeed.

low comp ones have an afm, look in my profile and you'll see a big box thin before the t/b.

look at the size of the ports. smallport indicates high compresion.

The easy way to tell is look at the gaps in between the ports. If the gaps in between are larger than the ports themselves, its smallport high comp. If the gaps are smaller than the ports, its low comp bigport

thanks thats good advice crnkin, the motor is out of the car with no duct on the intake, and is a complete motor, i dont think the guy wants to take off manifold and that to check, is ther any other way you can tell???by looking at the intake and that or??he said he brought it from the wreckers and didnt ask which one!!. whats a fair price for one he wants 1300 bucks,thanks for your time!!!!

Best and easiest way to tell is to look fot the external oil drian from the head down into the block.

At the back, on the intake side.

If it's there it's a smallport high comp one.
