3S differences - Room for transfer case on NA block?

Postby MrOizo » Fri Oct 06, 2006 12:23 am

On behalf of Adydas as he dont really have access at the moemnt.

Soooo... are there any differences between Gen2 and Gen3 3SGE and 3SGTE's?

What we trying to do?

Fit a ST185 box to a NA-GEN3-3SGE (and dont worry - its been "worked auuuu")

The prob we been having is that we dont really have enough room for the transfer case when putting the box on the block! what we have seen and have dealt to are a few threaded holes for some sort of bracket.

Have had the box on nice without the transfer case. cant get the transfer case on while the box is attached.

MAybe it does fit but we're getting at it at the wrong angle?

Anyone know?

i know when i put my ST185 box onto my ST215 engine, i had to have the gearbox at a really odd angle to get the transfer to clear the block wing. it can be done, we had the engine hanging off a forklift, the gearbox on a jack so we could rotate it.

The blocks physically biger, big enuf to stop it going on.

Grinder + block = problem solved.

is the engine you are using (a 3rd gen 3sge) the same block as my ST215 motor? if it is it CAN be done, i recall thinking there was no way in hell it was going to fit on mine but then we worked out how it could be done. there is no way you'd do it if the engine was in the car already.

And isnt a caldina motor a gen4? not a gen3? hence why it works?

nope, the GT-T engine is essentially the same as the ST205 motor as far as the block and head etc goes.
the 1996 ST202 engine I have is externally a dead ringer of the ST215 engine. I even swapped some of the parts off the non turbo engine on to the GT-T motor cause they were better suited to what i was wanting to do.
