Increased Fan Noise - 3SGE

Postby BlakJak » Tue Nov 07, 2006 9:04 am

Guys,

Have noticed my Caldina is a lot noiser at Idle now than it used to be.
Seems to be mainly fan noises - tied to the electric fan i'm guessing, though the A/C is pretty damn noisy as well when I have chance to observe it.

Its not noticable in the cab, but it is if you're standing outside the vehicle.

Anything I should be looking for as a possible problem developing?? No negative performance or anything like that noticed, and the car isnt running hot or anything like that. Performed flawlessly on a blat to Napier and Back over the weekend... however noises worry me :|

Cheers
BJ

You mean it's always on so it's noisey or is it noisey when it's on?

It is getting warmer these days I wouldn't be suprised it's on more.
If the fan's noisey it might be bearings in the fan, you MIGHT have to replace the fan itself.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Noisy when the fan is on. And the noise isn't as regular as i'd have expected.

If i had to guess i'd have said bearings too - but thatd be a pure guess. Do they fail often? Is it an expensive fix?

Bearings are somewhere in the region $2-10, although they might be sleeve type. Don't bother just get a second hand one, as some the motors might be sealed, if you going to pull it apart it might to pay to change the brushes and polish contacts.

He earns like 150k a year, I don't think he'll pull the motor apart to replace a bushing just to save $50

Get a new fan IMO.
