Temperature guage behaving iratically:(

Postby 2fas4u » Mon Nov 13, 2006 9:20 pm

hi guys, the Temperature guage on my 90 MR2 Turbo is behaving very irratically. one minute the needle would jump to past the hot point and stay up their while it's idling (when stopped at traffic lights or simply when the car is not moving)and would drop back to the middle when start moving again. it would sometimes jump to past the Hot point again after a good boosting, and sometimes it would stay at the normal level. After leaving the car parked for 10-15mins with engine off while i go do shopping and then return to turn car on again, the temperature needle would surge past hot point immediately. however when boosting down the motorway or State highway, the needle rarely ever leave the nomal reading. any ideas? stuffed guage?, stuffed thermostat or both? any one got a pic of which plug is the temperature sensor? cheers

where is the radiator fan on the MR2? is it the fan that's in the engine bay at the back on the drivers side? or is that fan for the intercooler? if it's that fan then yes it's working. how do i replace the thermostat and where is it found. if it's air lock how do i unlock it? sorry about so many question. first time had this happening to me.

Strangely enough it's kept in the front of the car, on the back of the radiator

Do those fans turn on when the aircon is turned on? (They should)

With an MR2 water system i wouldn't touch it unless you have a bit of a clue about what your doing. So easy to stuff it up.

if the guage moving really fast , no way it is air lock or overheating problem. I had similar problem on my GT4, it turned out to be loose plug on guage sender. 1 cable tie and it is all fixed.

cheers, just incase it was a thermostat, how much are replacements from toyota? MR Revhead still here?

in regards to the temperature guage on the dash, where is the signal for that come from? was it from the temperature sensor that's hooked up to the radiator itself or is the signal sent from a sensor that's on the engine block? cheers.
