AE101 temperature control lights

Postby AE82 FXGT » Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:31 am

Hey all, did a search and couldn't find anything relevant.
My GTZ and recently my older brothers GT Apex lights have stopped working.

They are the lights that light up the buttons for the airflow direction controls and temp (the buttons above the stereo) and the lights that light up the temperature increments.

As it's happened to both of ours I'd think that it''s a common problem?
Mine weren't working when I got the car so I wasn't fussed but my older brothers stopped working randomly.
Does anyone know whats up?

I've yet to check fuses but I suspect them, but I can't think of a reason it would have blown.

I've got the same problem, but only with the right handside of the "display", which makes me think there's two bulbs back there lighting it. Could be wrong.

I had part of my speedo light turn off randomly the other night, just looked down and noticed from 0-80 was very dim, started the car the next night and it was working fine

Bulbs

Postby andyztouring » Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:09 am

They have tiny bulbs in the back of the control panel, replace with new ones, from memory the bulbs were not cheap. I got the bulbs from a auto sparky.

Hey anyone have an idea on how to chang ethese tiny bulbs, I took the actual unit out and undone 4 screws at the back, lifted the plastic back off it and from there it looks like you have to take the PCB out as I figure the lights will be on that?

How can I do this with out breaking it?
I see where it clips to the plastic and have undone those three tabs...

From memory

Postby andyztouring » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:21 pm

From memory you dont need to unscrew the back panel off the unit, there are black or green round dots with a slot or philips cross, undo these a 1/4 turn ,should come out, the bulb is mounted on that, pull bulb off and change over with new one.I think the bulbs have a green rubber cover on them.Has been about 3 years when I did my Trueno .Hope this helps.

Cool, where did you get these types of bulbs from?
I was hoping to go to Jaycar or DSE but it looks like I'll have to go to Toyota...
