Couple of misc 3SGTE q's...

Postby Boosted_162 » Fri Jan 19, 2007 2:24 am

Hey guys, now the project's on the go, just wondering about a few things.

1) Inlet manifolds: Is there any advantages of using an n/a mani over a turbo one? I have both sitting round, but no T/B on the n/a one. Any difference in flow? Will there be a significant heat difference between the two? (being that the turbo one runs over the motor)

2) Trans cooler: Is it worth me upgrading this? The car will be running a heavy clutch, and will be making a decent amount of power (350hp+)

3) Oil filter: Is there any advantages with running a remote filter? Since 3SGTE's have a great rep of running bearings, and the crap standard filter sits upside down. Do i just use good filters? TRD ones?

4) Sump baffling: Do i need to add some extra baffling in? I want to get into racing of some sort, 1 event and i'm hooked :D

5) Axles: How the $&#$% do they come out! Are they only held in the box by a circlip? Ive only tried pulling them, but my CV's are completely dead, and wouldn't be suprised it i broke one trying to lever it out somehow!

Cheers for any help/advice 8)

1) *appearntly* more even airflow to the middle cylinders (2&3), but won't really matter until you reached over 350hp or if you're running extreme tuning. Side t/b is always good for cars like yours for i/c plumbing

2) Only if you compete in motorsports I'd say, daily driven it'll be fine with the odd blat around here and ther.

3) The oil filter has nothing to do with running bearings, it runs bearings because a) Toyota is friggin useless, b) Toyota is frigging useless, and c) Toyota is friggin useless. The Sump design was very flawed I don't know what they have for brains, this has been corrected on the gen 3 with 2 piece sump. You can try an extended custom sump + baffle, extend the oil pickup and shim the pump, that's what I'd do if I'm staying with gen 2's

Actually, when I saw the gen 2 sump last time I broke open the engine, it has no baffle, it was just like a bow IIRC.

4) You're screwed, god bless your bearings, but if you're only doing grass motorkhana you'll be sweet as, you won't get enough grip to slush the oil around too much.

5) They're held in by a spring circlip, they pop out easily, screw driver leaverage imo, although I did have to give it the rubber mullet treatment once.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.
