C160 crown wheel question

Postby crispy'86 » Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:01 pm

We have a 6 speed box from an ae111 in at work and wanting to know if the crown wheel and pinions are model specific to that model box or could i get away with getting the same from an ae101 5 speed box, fit it to the ae111 6 speed box and have no dramas? I'm thinking of putting it into my ae82 fxgt

I don't know for sure, but I recall my mechanic telling me the pinion in my C60 box was narrower than in the C56. The gears themselves are narrower too, presumably everything was squashed to fit the extra ratio into the same size (kinda) gearbox housing.

Let me guess, the C160 has stripped crownwheel and pinion? Common problem with them...
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

most likely, other question is anyone got some spare bits from an ae111 c160 box??

Measured up pinion shaft where seal runs: 33.5 mm
Mainshaft near the gears 52mm
Can't measure up crown wheel, the boy who's car we took the box out of decided to frame it and put it above the fireplace to brag to his mates

would it help if someone could measure up a crown wheel from a 6 speed box and a c56 from a 101?? It seems the 6 speed boxes are longer in the casing to accomidate the extra gear from what i could tell
