changing ball joints curren with ss help please

Postby eskimo » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:29 pm

Hey,

I have to replace 2 ball joints in my curren(the one above the axil next to rotor) got 2 new ball joints from toyota, gonna attemp this myself on sunday(i dont need to drive the car again untill the end off the week)

Im wanting to know how hard this is to do, the car has super strut and its the ball joint just above the axil next to the rotor, so if any one has a few trick to geting these out and putting the new ones in, it would be mint if you could share,

I have good range of tools on hand as well, i dont have is a press thoe(was told they have to pressed in)

So yea if any one would like to share it would be mint

Cheers,

So you're replacing the top ball joint on both sides?

I found it's a prick of a job to do.
From memory I had to take the whole strut out which involved undoing a brake line (so you have to bleed the brakes when you're done), then undoing the circlip that holds the ball joint there (I think it's a tapered press fit). Then pressing it out, and the new one in. Then putting the strut in and bolting up the whole hub assembly.

Have a search there should be a bit of info on it.
