The gaskets between the FWD and RWD beams engines are different.
It's quite clever.
If you use the FWD gasket, it opens and closes different water galleries, making the water outlet at the back of the head. If you use the RWD one, it puts the water outlet at the front of the head, in the position where the Celica/caldina alternator bolts on to. (I always wondered why it looked like a water gallery there in the block... Because it is one!)
If the gasket does indeed match the previous gen 3SGTE engines, then you'd be better off getting a FWD beams head gasket, if you're using it in a transverse setup.
