ae85 conversion - clutch/gearbox issue

Postby nic32 » Tue Apr 10, 2007 12:46 am

Hey hey

I've almost finished an ae82 blue top in to an ae85. All hasn't gone well, have fixed most issues, however have a fairly major one.

I'm running a k50, with the 3a/k50 plate(lots of meat but not the nicest looking) and the 4age cover and flywheel(spigot bearing installed)

I can select a gear with the clutch in or out, ie there is no drive getting to the gearbox. I've tried mucking around with the cable adjustment at the top(the circlip at the top) - while this gives a good pedal it still doesn't change the situation.

I read in the faq that ae85coupe provided that I may have to run a spacer behind the release bearing, but I'm not sure that would fix the situation.

Help please

chur chur

**edit** if I do need a spacer, can I get one from somewhere, or if it needs to be made, what dimensions and what material?

so the engine is running and you can just put it into gear and nothing happens? id check the fork and release bearing. it should work without a spacer.

<cough> hits neo upside the head <cough> thinks to himself why did he cough while hitting someone....

So Mr Mayhem, you think that the clutch is staying engaged? What would cause that? Sounds like it's box off again....

Could it also be the plate slipping really bad? I would have thought I'd get some sort of movement though.

it sounds like the clutch isnt engaging at all if it doesnt stall when in gear and car running. is the clutch plate definatly the right way round?

well you said it has plently of meat on the plate so its not slipping, im using the exact same setup as you so the parts are right and sorry but yea i think the only way to sort it out is to take it off and check everything again, but hey thats not too hard.
