how safe are lowering blocks???

Postby stalker » Fri Apr 13, 2007 12:41 pm

hey all....just wanted to know how safe are lowering blocks if i were to lower my ute???
i been told that they can affect the handling and make the veh a tad "wobberly" if i go more than 2 inches.
I only looking at going 2 - 3 inches anyways, but yea, just wondering if anyone has had any probs with them??

Plus, anyone out there know of any good / reliable (knows wat they are doin) places to get a ute lowered???
:)

p.s. b4 anyone asks...i cant afford the hydros yet...so they will be in a year or 2

Max of 50mm thickness allowed cant cert higher.

Theyre safe as, will cause axle tramp when doing skids etc. Better/sometimes cheaper to reset with extra leaves.

Depends, whats it for? just a parts hauler or something?

One good thing about blocks is if you wanna sell it, or return to stock, remove them and put stock U bolts back in.

my understanding (from talking to WOF guys and certifiers) is aslong as the lowest structural point of the car is over 100mm from the ground you don't need certs...

but if you get certs, the blocks can't be over 2" high and your springs have to be captive/uncut etc.

has it changed again or have i thought wrong all along? :?
and what exactly is axle tramp, whats it caused from?

Over 100mm high you dont need a cert, can get any height below that certed as long as you have travel and your springs are captive. However my car is on the absolute maximum you could get certed in terms of height and camber. Cut springs can be certed, theyre fine within reason.

Axle tramp is where you wheels hop around ,because the diff is higher up the axle can rotate with the wheel then it springs back, making the wheel hop. So you do a skid and your wheels hop around and it looks ghey.
