Boring bluetop rods to take 20mm gudgeon

Postby Volodkovich » Mon Mar 26, 2007 6:00 pm

I've heard a few people talk about this, and would quite like to do it to the 4age i am building up soon.

So basically i can run the lighter crank/rods with the later pistons.

Are the bluetop rods still strong after being bored to take the 20mm gudgeon pin? It will be a mild tune n/a 16v, in a road going club car. So will get thrashed but will be looked after.

Would like to hear peoples opinion on this.

Cheers

Id be very interested in this also, simply for the fitting of later model pistons.

I've killed a few 4ags, and its never been because the gudgeon hole wasnt strong enough, always been oil starvation.

According to said person, the just machine out the bush, and run with none. Doesnt alter the strength of the rod.

So i assume you make the gudgeon press fit into the rod if you dont run a bush in the little end?
This way the piston would rotate on the gudgeon rather than the gudgeon rotating in the rod.
