Hi!!

I've made search here but not found answers I was looking for.

So I wonder which are the differences between the 2T (75ps) powered Carina TA60 and the 4ag one (AA63)?

I'm asking you this because in Europe only 2T model was sold but wanted to make a 4AGZE swap.

What about drive train, suspension, diff, brake, gearbox...

And what is IRS, don't know this term?

Hi, welcome to toyspeed.
All the Carinas in NZ are second hand imports from Japan. They were never sold new here.
There aren't many (if any) TA60 Carinas here in NZ. From my experience the 60 means solid rear axle, low performance.

Carinas - Coupe/Hatch/Fastback 3 door, Sedan 4 door, Wagon 5 door

AA60 Carinas (most common) - 3A 1.5L carburettor (carby for short) motor with 4 or 5 speed gearbox (T40 or T50), solid rear axle, solid (non ventilated) front disk brakes and drum rear brakes.

SA60 Carina - 1S 1.8L carby motor, 5 speed gearbox T50, solid rear axle, solid (non ventilated) front disk brakes and drum rear brakes.

AA63 Carina (less common) - 4age (early bigport motor) T50 5 speed gearbox, independant rear suspension (IRS) ventilated front disk brakes, solid disk rear brakes.

TA63 Carina Turbo (as common as AA63)- 3TGTE 1.8L Turbo motor, W55 5 speed gearbox, independant rear suspension (IRS) ventilated front disk brakes, solid disk rear brakes.

Wagons usually have a T or 1S motor

I got an other question. We only got here the 2T, solid rear axe here.

But we got AA63 Celicas, Is that possible to swap easily all the suspension, diff parts?
Since it's a carburetor engine with no loom and ecu , How the 4AG engine will run?

Theres lots of posts about on how to convert an ae85 to 4age.

its a very similar operation to convert a AA60 carina to 4age.

I have an AA60 carina running a carburettored 4ag.

You can swap everything except the rear suspension and brakes - the IRS mounting is totally different to the solid axle setup.
Don't forget the fuel tank from the fuel injected car either - reduces fuel surge during cornering with low fuel level.

Solid axle is similar to the ae86??

Solid axle is a T series axle 6.7 inch crown wheel - same as AE86 but it is a bit wider and the mounts are different width and angle - you cannot just bolt an AE86 axle into a carina. Also solid axle carina has drum brakes - AE86 is disk.

The easiest/best upgrade for the Carina solid rear is using an F series, one from an RA40 bolts straight in, apparently (Work in progress) And an altezza LSD can fit an F series live axle too apparently (also a work in progress)

I want so much a decent performance Carina, that I will be disapointed to leave my 86 for a carina that doesn't suit what I want...

can a lsd from an AE86 fitted into the aa63 IRS axle, izzit a direct swap, since both are t series?
