theres a wee trick of you have the cam cover on with the the oil fillter cap theres a little dimple in the cam this should line up with the egde of the oil filler ( the halfway of the filler ) if your cambelts on right that will be TDC

Ok,

as far as the pistons and block is concerned there is no difference between TDC no1 and TDC no4. They both occour at the same time.

Just line up the crnka pulley at TDC ( both piston 1 & 4 will be up )
and then line up the cam markls on the pulley's to make it TDC number 1.

The crank cannot be 360 degree's out.

oh true i get it why they say check 8 clearances at #1 at tdc and 8 at #4,

because the crank spins twice as fast correct.

cheers
