What's the advantages of a poddie

Postby tayis01p » Wed May 02, 2007 3:06 pm

Obviously i'll get a better induction sound on my blacktop 20V but what about power (will it go down) should I buy an intake pipe? and finally what about economy? so many questions

Should search...

Basicaly, most of the time you are better off getting a k&n panel filter and putting it in your std airbox.

If you get a pod, get a real one, not a $30 one from supercheap.

The pod will have to be sheilded from the hot engine air, and pref have a nice feed of cold air comming into it. Have a search for people's cold air box's they have made.

If done properly, you will free up a couple of hp if your lucky.

Done bad, and you will go backwards, and run the risk of killing your motor (sucking in water from badly placed pod).

Yeah well its just that ive read and heard so many contradicting things about after market performance parts, and not having a dyno at home I was wanting to get some opinions. shot

Hp wise you probebly wont notice a pod but they are usually shinny and make your engine bay look nice, Obiously more air is going to help ( More so if its cold) and with a decent intake you should get a better trottle response depending on what your putting it on, However if its not air tight your gunna end up with vaccum leaks so you will be traveling at half the speed for twice the gas

there is hardly any restriction in a stock filter, you are better off just improving flow to and from stock air box.

it makes teh sic noises bro aye ??

fking useless if its not set up correctly and shielded in the engine bay ..

Kids and wannabe fast and furious types will put the pods in for the bling , but i truely think that many dont even run their minds over how they work , whats best in how they get placed , and what improvemenbts over a stock airbox there is

Build a new box and put a K&N panel in it, or just put better air flow to the stock box.

Seen a really nice setup in a NA RX7, heat wrapped box, with panel filter, and two big fat pipes straight from the front into the box

If it helps, this is how our blacktop in our AE110 has the intake set up

Hey thats almost exactly the setup i had in my 101 with sivlertop only my intake pipe was bigger and was one mandrel bend and i also had the afm as well obviously.
Btw it works even better like this if when you are at a track event or some sort of speed trial if you take the left hand headlight out.
To give anyone looking at this a rough idea of cost for me it was
$47 for the battery box to relocate battery
$30 for the cable to move battery to boot
$60 for the circuit breaker
$15 for the pipe
Free stainless for the heat sheild
$23 for the two joiners i needed to join pipe to inlet plenum and afm
and i got given my catch can for my birthday from my little brother so not sure how much
$80 for the pod
$100 for 2 dyno runs before and after

Total gain for pod system nearly same as above was 4kW atw :)
May have been slightly colder on second run as one was summer and one was winter but not 4kW worth in it
