One resonably easy way to trace the break is to turn the demister on and using a voltmeter or small test light start at the edges and carefully work your way in with one lead of the tester untill the lamp goes out or the volts disappear. As for fixing the break there is a repair kit out there with a little vial of paint,paint brush and mask for about $25, Bindons and i think super cheap do them, not repco though.
