Before buying parts climb under the rear of the car (on jackstands, not on a jack).
Find the rear diff and on the rear face of it there is a mounting block, aound 5 inches by 5 inches. It has two bolts in the centre, one above the other.
You may see that the centre part (with bolts) is torn free of the surrounding rubber, allowing the diff to rock forward and aft, making the clonking noise. If that is not the issue then you have other problems.
It can be replaced without removing the diff. From meory I undo the bolts holding the diff to subframe and the cross member, allowing the diff to slide forward, gives lots of room.
I think I've done this 3 times on two different cars.
If you get it done in urethane get it done solid without holes, otherwise it tears again.
