heelllpppp!!! sumthing gone rong with engin!!

help me i was goin for a burn in my car and wen i was slowing down i noticed the engin noise changed
its now i deeper sort of sound (witch is kinda cool) but i think the tappets have gotten $&#$% bad aswell or sumthing and it backfiers when trying to accsulerate and has lost heaps of power

ok its a 4k with a 3k heaid (witch i put on about 2 weeks ago)

some ideas iv had is
timing is $&#$%
or a valve is screwd

anny bettar ideas? and ways to cheack thnx
bout to go find dads timing light to cheak timing

Check the tappet settings arent all up the $&#$%. If you didnt tighten them up after setting them last they can losen up easy enough.

its not fiering properly on cyl4 took plug out and cleand it out and cheaked its fiering fine but still nothing happens wen i take the lead off and it hasint fixed anything sadly
yea im sure its probly tappits ill sort it out tomoro
man its gonna be a slow trip to town lol

Hey man, dnt know much bout the car u got but if its got a cambelt then turn the crank until you line the mark on the crank pulley to TDC then take the top timing cover off and make sure the cams lined up. If it's slipped a tooth this can sometimes cause what you've explained!

Broken valve spring? I thought the 4k run a timing chain? Would be interesting for it to jump a teeth....

yea its got a chain so it wouldint have jumped a tooth and if it did id have huge problems lol
gonna take the rocker cover off tomoro and hopfuly sort out what the problem

definately have timing chain. check the timing though, the distributor could've been loose and moved?

check cap and rotor, had mercede stop without reason cap look ok but was $&#$%

toook off rocker cover just b4 and on the exaust valve the nut had cum off igf the thrreded bit for adjusting the tappits 8O
the threedid bit was way out and the pushrod was just sitting there
if you can get what i mean
so got another nut off 3k hed and put back togeather just wating for car to warm up atm so i can reset all of the tappits (been meening to do it proprly for a while)

lol hows it gonna get to the sump? from what i remember the oil galleries(?) in k series arent that big...

grab one of those magnetic pick up tools from repco and wave it around the cam/tappets etc to see if is still in the head, otherwise id be a little worried...

had the best of a look around that i could with a light but couldint see it but from wen i had the hed off the holes are big enuf for one of thoes bolts coz they arnt verry big but ill find out if its not soon enuf but hasint done any damige so far and i gave the car a good run so yea
