AE85 Brake upgrade

Postby Trls250s » Sat Jun 02, 2007 12:04 am

I wish to upgrade my brakes to something a bit more responsive. Im planning to put a 4age in (which i already have) but i want to make everything else gravy before i do the conversion. Im not planning to make massive numbers but i like the idea of stopping on a dime. Makes canning around the hills a lot more fun too.

Can anyone suggest replacements for the standard 85 ones. Im not looking to get massive after market ones. Just thinking of a upgrade using standard toyota parts, or nissan ones.

I kno cressida, corona GT, carina GT, and AE86 all have 10" vented rotors but are the calipers 2 pot, and is it worth $500 for AE86 parts?!?

Will AW11 Front struts/rotors and all the good bits fit in to the front?

I have considered S13 4 stud 4 pot brakes, i know this can be done with a bit of modification but can someone point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

For a start AE86 dont have 10" rotors or twin pistons, they are single piston and have 243mm (9.5") diameter vented disks.

Your best bang for your buck would be upgrading your pads and fluid of you ae85 brakes.

AE86 brakes come up for sale on TradeMe from time to time and would be your only bolt on brake upgrade option. Any other bakes will need new brackets making and/or mix and matching of parts to make them fit.

AW11 brakes won't bolt up without modification.

Here is some info on adapting S13 brakes to suit a AE85/6

Sorry I missed the word "won't", AW11's have 4x100 stud pattern, and use front rotors of 258mm diameter.

whats the use of the car?

to upgrade to ae86 you need the backing plates, calipers and rotors.
all avail new.... but to be honest the calipers are more than youd pay for some better ones

Thats only half of it, spring pertch needs cutting down, top hat needs replacing with a adjustable AE85/6 one as there is too much neg camber otherwise, also the height of the perch is different to the AE85/6.

A lot of feedback quite quickly. Thanks

Just general road use. I like to take my car for a thrash and i wouldnt mind taking it to a track day.

When you own a trueno why not use it.

I think $495 is far to much money for what AE86 brakes and struts are worth for what they are.

I didnt know the rotors were only 9.5" and singple pot. I must have missheard some information when it came to them.

re-drill the rotors to 4x80 or whatever it is, bolts in the hub like standard ones and then get a caliper bracket made. dont have to change stud pattern and can still fit a 14" wheel

Im contimplating doing what the auzzies do and fit S13 assemble to my car. Ive considered this a bit as i use to own a cefiro and did a lot of suspension work on it.

I often gazed under my trueno thinking that that assemble should fit under there. Now ive read that article im seriously contimplating it.

There are S13 brakes and rotors on trademe for $60 and i already own some s13 hubs, LCA. Just need struts and im in buisness.
