Battery Overcharging Question

Postby ollieboy » Tue Jun 05, 2007 11:44 pm

If a vehicles battery is up to capacity and the engine is running so the alternator is charging, will the battery overcharge from the constant current running into it?

Reason I ask is one of my vehicles was taken on a long trip and the battery was empty at the end (wondered why the smell of sulfur was coming through the vents all the way) I topped it up and its been fine ever since and I'm buggered if I know what caused it. Thats the only thing I can think of.

Battery was brand new a week before the trip.

Oh and theres 14.4V flowing into battery

the alternator wont overcharge the battery unless somethings broken.

my battery got overcharged and melted etc when the regulator blew on the alternator.

hmmmm

thats fuggered then. I checked the regulator and changed it over just for kicks. Well it hasn't done it since so I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

Cheers
