Leaky Diesel pump, is it DIY?

Postby sergei » Fri Jun 08, 2007 10:57 am

There is a hiace with 2L diesel engine - it has got a leaking diesel injector pump, it looks like it leaks from main shaft (diesel coming out from cambelt cover and behind that area). Is this fix possible at home conditions - pull the pump on pull out old seal put new one etc.?
I have been quoted about $500 to fix that leak (that is if I bring in the pump). It could be a lot more if they will take it of and put it back.
I have no problem with removing it and putting it back, but from EPC pic the pump looks awfully complicated with lots of springs and small bits that I do not want to touch.

me and my dad did the pump on our 2.8 pajero.major pain in the arse i would recomend just taking it in,but if your not to bad wih mechanics get some intructions of the net and remove it yourself but definately take it in to replace the seal.$500 should get you a full recon

yeah, i attempted to do one on my old surf - pain in the ass, and eventually gave up and bought a second hand one and sent it in for a full recon, set me back $400 from diesel and turbo.

Your quite right there Seregi, (i've been working at Alltech for over 7 years and stil have a basic understanding of excatly how a Diesel pump works.
btw i sell turbos, i dont repair the pumps)

A rough geustamation a rebuild would set you back around the $600 - $800 depending on what tpe of pump it is, hat the condition of the pump is. and what it needs.
if it just needs the orings & rollers you'r looking at the lower side, if it needs a drive shaft, camplate or other bits you could be looking at the higher end...
