Postby ke_25 » Fri Jun 15, 2007 3:28 pm

Running a low comp 8:1 gze block and woundering if a Garrett t04s t3/t4 would be too large? and estimation of full boost? i have the larger injectors and all that shite and owuld be runnign a link g3 hopefully,

they a/r housings on teh t04s are 0.48 on the exhaust side, and .70 on teh compressor side? as will be costing around 1500 and dont want to make rong decision..

any thought would be appreciated?

A t04s is a very big cold side. Do you have a trim spec on the compression etc? .48 is quite a small a/r too - no matter what, I can't see you getting full boost under 5000rpm but I could be wrong.

Lith is quite right.
T04S compressor side is usaly on the larger side of 59mm inducer.

A/r's off the compressor & turbine housings really mean nothing with out knowing the sizes of the wheels.

its all fine having a .70 compressor cover... but if it has a 60-1 or Grand national wheels going on a little 1300cc (for example sake) starlet that they only want 200hp is a little over kill...

as lith said what is the trim or sizes off the compressor & turbine wheels.

we had a little T3 running on a stock(ish) 4age with a .60 A/r compressor cover Super 60Trim t3 compressor wheel, T3 turbine wheel with a
.48 A/r turbine housing. he was making full boost (a wopping 7psi) at 3,800 from memory.

why this particular turbo ? Seems like your're spending enough to get the correct match from the start. Enough turbo 1.6L examples out there to copy, eh.
I'd think it was better to ask;
What sorta power you looking for ?
What rpm would you like to see how much psi ?

wanting 220kwatw. i was going to go gt2871r but they were quiet procey, but might end up going that way. rpm wise not too fussy but dont want ridiculous lag.. and psi.. dpends on turbo i guess

any t28 would be a good match for the 4age in the 220kw range, so would a 16g.
I prefer the 16 for the price as its a tough 'little' turbo thats proven to make power even @25+psi ....and live on!
Exhaust mani design has a significant impact on boost threshold also.

gt bb not worth the extra money in my view. A much cheaper t3/t4 will do the same job and can be sized to suit... with room to grow, beyond a T2 footprint.

vf24, from V4 sti's will be you.
got mine for 1100 brand new, ball bearing, coming on boost hard at 3800, 20psi by 4300, 218kw atw@20psi.
they take a lot of abuse too, first one failed after 3 laps of manfield with a disconnected i/c pipe, was still makinh 15psi at the engine, but was pretty much freeboosting the turbo

or tdo5 big 16g will do it easy at the cost of more lag.

i was hoping to go on a slightly larger than 220kwatw turbo as i wil no doubt get bored and want more later and spend some more coin? if running a t04e series.. say liek a turbonetics from usa.. whats the best size a/r's, strim, spec etc?

and td05 spec, is there much difference between the 20g and teh 16g?

evoIII 16g has moved 3000+ pound 2L mitsu street cars to mid 11sec 1/4s, to back up the 400+ hp dyno'd. Race gas + ~26-30psi for that sorta hi performance Of course. Still its one way to maintain a responsive turbo, run ~15-18psi daily use, then set on kill if/when u like. Sold under $500usd new, int wg included. A hard turbo to match.

Same old tradeoff; sacrifice response as you raise your hp goals.
I'll try my 46-trim t04e with stageII exhaust wheel in 0.48 t3 housing on a 4agte.
