ae82 suspension problem

Postby .:O4AGTZ:. » Tue Jun 19, 2007 7:24 pm

well here is th story. there is a nasty knock coming from both front corners when going over bumps. firstly i was told the shock inserts were stuffed, so replaced them...still knocking. The i was told the springs were old and had lost their spring rate or something like that so replaced them too...still there. Any other ideas? one i have heard is strut mounts. or maybe even an engine mount but i have a strong feeling its not that.

make sure everything is tightened. Almost sounds similar to my problem where only my left front is making noises when going over bumps and turning. I sort of narrowed it down to top strut mounts.

Are your springs move-able by hand when you jack the car up? What I found with mine is, the problem side is move-able. I suspect that the flat parts of my top strut mount that stops the shock from turning when i tighten the topnut is grinded away therefore I cant tighten it fully. When I try to tighten, it pops and gives me quarter of a turn everytime.

Will report back when I try the rattle gun next week if you still have not sorted it out by then.

Hey check ALL your engine mount bolts with rachet/spanners - I had an annoying noise that really seemed like suspension but was a mount that looked ok but tightened a bit and it went quiet. Also look at sway bar end links to the lower arms and definitely the strut top mounts as mentioned before.
