installing boost gauge.. help lol

Postby 92mr2paddy » Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:22 pm

ok its a mechanical boost gaueg going into an mr2 turbo, so far ive run all the tubeing etc installed gauge.

i always thought that you hook it up between the nipple from turbo (going to wastegat actuator) just tee into that and you should get a reading of what the boost/vacuum is.. well that didnt work at all, got no reading and when i drove it to see if it would change i hit fuel boost cut and engine check light came on,, so i must of inetrupted the wastegate or something,,,, if you dont connect it there where does it go???

thanks pat :roll:

hmmm. Never heard of tee-ing a gauge in that close to the turbo, though i can't think why it wouldn't work. I have a boost controller on the line that you describe. For my gauge I used one of the vacuum lines from the TB, IIRC the one that connects to the Turbo Pressure Sensor on the rear of the engine bay. Easy peasy and good access to run the air pipe into the cabin via the boot.

IIRC= if i remember correctly

the turbo pressure sensor is right next to the 'diagnosis' terminal on the rear wall of the engine bay, drivers side. It has a vacuum line from the intake manifold attached underneath, and supplies the computer with a voltage representing boost pressure (for fuel cut, and powering the factory 'boost gauge')

mine has an orange sticker on the top saying something like 'sensor assy turbo pressure'

HTH (hope this helps :) )

I just ran it off one of the vaccum points from the intake manifold

mmm, kewl kewl, mine doesnt have a factory boost gauge as i converted it to turbo. so like the vacuum line going from the bov to manifold should be ok?? cheers

The line from bov to manifold is the one that I use for my gauge and boost controller, seems like a pretty sensible place, the BOV isnt quite as crutial a component as the wastegate. If you dont get any reading still, your vaccum hose for a crack or hole.

I think you are boosting 0.4bar because your TVSV is electrically disconnected, or vacuum line going to it is plugged.
