Weighing conrods

Postby KinLoud » Fri Jun 29, 2007 7:07 pm

OK - I know HOW to weight them using accurate scales....
I plan to put 4age rod weights up in the tech FAQ about 4age rods.
BUT - when rods are weighed what do you include? I need an industry standard please...

- rods (well doh!)
- caps (most likely)
- bolts (maybe, maybe not... factory or aftermarket?)
- nuts (see above)
- bearing shells? (I guess not)
- gudgeon pins (separate weight for interests sake?)

PLEASE - DON'T POST UNLESS YOU KNOW THE ANSWERS PLEASE!
None of the "my cousin's dog's half sister's vet's mechanic said..." replies please

Thanks

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I wouldn't really think it matters what you include Ken as long as you specify what your baseline is - and use that for all the different types you're weighing. I would think it would be the bare rod with endcaps bolted on - no bearings, gudgeons or shells.
See ya

But possibly also without rod bolts and nuts, as aftermarket conrods usually specify weight, and then give an option on different size bolts.

rods and endcaps without bolts/nuts.
then specify weight of standard bolts/nuts. and ARP, and if you really feel like going overboard then pins too :)

+10 Karma to Kinloud for putting useful info in Tech Section :)

Rod, cap and state the added weight for stock, and arp's
Or list the rod weight 3 times, no bolt, stock, arp's... depends how much time you have

Weigh pins serprate for intrest sake :) I notice blacktop ones are shorter and have less meat inside over silvertop so weights should very abit, Also wouldnt mind seeing piston weight's without rings.. (dono if it should include keepers?)
eg Silvertop piston ***grams pin ** grams

I have a range of pins, pistons and bolts if you need
