Possibility of mounting sc14 on exhaust side?

Postby soopachargen » Fri Jul 06, 2007 3:28 pm

Ive been tossing around ideas for a motor for my wagon and was thinking about going turbo when i came across that h22a civic on trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Honda/auction-106455026.htm?p=1
it made me wonder whether it would be possible to fit an sc14 on the exhaust side of a 4age.

After looking at a pic of a 4agze on a stand that i have on my computer and remembering that the alternator lives down the back on a 4age i'm guessing that you could do away with the aircon and mount the supercharger in its position.
Anyone with pics of a fwd 16valve on a stand with extractors?

My reasoning for wanting to mount it on the front is it would allow me to run a short pipe to the filter in the guard as on a turbo motor, and then a pipe out the front into a 'cooler, running back up to an NA intake manifold.

This would make more room at the back of the motor, give me that mean sc14 scream, and allow me to run a blow-off valve and front mount for the ultimate in wank factor :P

Other than the wank factor does anyone have any thoughts??
When in doubt, down and out.

if you do it, please move the TB to AFTER the sc!
stupid intake length otherwise!!!

other than that, i cant think of anything against it.

yeah thats the plan, hopefully with a link and some injectors may be able to make 150kw... and have it nice and driveable

You'd make that power easy, drivable is debatable though.

It makes it very on off kind of power, there is no middle ground like on a turbo :(

I was looking into this idea as well. I'm going turbo now though.

I had bought a Honda Civic Radiator, which would sit off to the other side (gearbox side) and the S/C was going to be where the A/C pump used to sit, where you mentioned. The problem I saw with the SC14, is that's it's longer, so not sure if it'll miss the exhaust I never got a SC14 to measure it up though. Also, the S/C is going to get in the way of the oil filter, so you'd have to relocate it or move S/C every oil change, or get right up under the car you might be able to change it with S/C in situ (depends on placement of S/C really).

Also, for the S/C to line up with the crank pulley, the clutched pulley of a SC14 looks like it's hit the chassis rail. It sticks out more than the SC12 pulley does. I suppose you could put a SC12 pulley assembly on it, or put another type of pulley arrangement on it.

Anyways, going turbo now, so plans changed. Still, wouldn't mind giving it a go with another car.

ive already run the sc14 at the back... the sc12 pulley works well. i'll run an oil filter relocation kit whether i go supercharger or turbo so thats not an issue.
is your setup running a clutch zak??

It's all going through the charger, in an ideal world it would have a by pass, but I"m not sure how it would work with the space I have.

Another reason I was looking at the turbo conversion.

How much are those though???
If you were going to fork out for one of those, you'd probably be better off just slapping a turbo on it.
