superstrut

Postby soven » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:17 pm

Got my 98 celica with superstrut checked out at toyota due to play on the right hand front. Diagnosed as ("lower suspension arm worn at joints") Got told that I should replace both the figure8 and the camber control arm at the same time because it seems that if one is gone, the other would most likely have to be replaced too.

What are your experiences? The joint that was indicated as having play was the joint between lower arm and figure of 8. Would it be bad if I replaced for example the lower arm first and see if it solves the problem or would it cause damage to the new part.

Bloody expensive stuff, Revhead I need your help :D

When I had my superstrut FXGT, one of the front struts went - I was advised to replace both cause (1) the other one wouldnt be far behind it and (2) labour wise it would end up cheaper cause theyre not having to take things apart again.

I would recommened just biting the bullet and paying for both to get done. Your car will thank you in the long run :P

This time round I learnt and got a non super strut trueno = no super strut problems (as great as the handling is on the super strut models)

Different parts. BZR4AGE has a trueno/levin.
Lucky for him ae1x1 superstruts are very common, so common that BNT (i think it was?) brought in a load of toyota genuine control arms from japan and started selling them for half what toyota was charging. Toyota dropped there prices from the $800+/side they were 4 or 5 years ago to something more reasonable.
