ae82 heater fan

Postby AE82 FXGT » Sat Aug 04, 2007 4:42 pm

Hey all,

My heater fan just stopped working one day.
Sometimes it randomly starts working again.
There is power at the plug going to it (haven't checked if there is an earth tough, could someone tell me if it's earth switched?).

So I decided to take the fan out and take it to an auto electrical place.

Trouble is it's got 3 torx screws (T26 I think), and I can get the first two off by using a 1/4 ratchet and torx bit, but the last one at the back I just can't reach. I used the bit a universal joint and two extensions and got it to come out a bit, but now it's out so far that the bit won't fit in it anymore because the floor gets in the way.

It's also still too tight for me to undo with my fingers.

Can anyone offer any tips/instructions?

is the screw holding the fan motor in the box, or the box to the car?

could always take the whole box out ;)

the three screws are holding just the fan in.

Taking the whole heater box out will be a mission :(

if its anything like the box in my 85, its just a few bolts and screws and it lifts right off the heater core.

if thats not gonna work have you tried a pair of water pump pliers?

I've tried all sorts of pliers, but nothing fits in there, my long nose pliers can only just grip it, but then they can't turn.

Yeah, I'll have a closer look at how I could take the whole box out.

admittedly my car has none of the lower dash in it at the moment, but it sounds like it might be your only option at this stage, short of breaking something :P
