1ggte overflowing

Postby bluemaumau » Sat Aug 04, 2007 4:31 pm

my mate bought a 1ggte powered gx61 a few months back.

(the one that was on here)

everytime its given a little shit for a while, water pisses out the overflow!, and along the side off the car

any ideas on what it could be.?

were guessing BHG, :?:

Does the motor get hot?

Dont't always assume the worst, I thought I had a BHG turned out just my radiator was blocked.

Got it cleaned at a radiator place (flushing and back flushing wasn't enough), and its been fine since.

its got a electric fan thats on pretty much all the time, but its pretty sweet, gets hot when sitting around in traffic.

he got a new rad a 1uz or 2jz soarer radiator i think from a toyota wreckers so youd hope it wouldnt be blocked.

If the electric fan is on all the time that usually would mean the car is struggling to keep the car at the right operating temp. It will get hot in while idling because the radiator isn't working as well as it should when the fan is on.

Those were the exact symptoms in my case.

Fan on all the time
Car got hot when idling or in drive through situation (or got hot just as driving off because waterpump starts circulating better)
Mine also got above normal when going up hill or under load

Mind you I removed the radiator, took it to get cleaned, installed a new waterpump (because I did a cambelt at the sametime), and chucked a new thermostat and fresh coolant also.

So it could have been anyone of them.

But most likely the radiator as the guy said it was about 80% blocked, the previous owner had just put water in the system, and when I emptied it it was just rust coloured water.

But after all that mine runs mint now, never overheated since.
So best probably to get the easy stuff out of the way to rule it all out before settling on BHG.

edit - also what Leon said, I replaced my cap aswell

yea the caps a good idea.

its got an electric fan, as in its on a switch and the switch is always on, so its got nothing to do with operating temp (the fan anyway)

So the fan isn't connected to a sensor?
It's just off a normal in cabin switch ie driver has full control?

My bad then, i thought it was a factory fan wired in the factory way

if its a headgasket there should be other symptoms! if a new cap doesnt fix it, i'd be tempted to pull both radiator hoses off the engine, then stick a garden hose in and flush the engine out a bit - make sure the water is flowing freely.

may as well check the thermostat while its in bits too.

the caps are easy to check with a pressure tester.

My jzx81 was doing this when I bought it, new cap and thermostat + jamming a hose onto radiator fixed it right up.

the thermostat doesnt control the fan, it just controls the flow of water between radiator and engine. you want this working normally regardless of how the fan is operated.

yea, new radiator cap, buy some radiator flush, sounds like it might be blocked and building up pressure them overflowing?

I just brought a gz71 wagon, same proble, changed the head gasket and still did it, so flushed rad and it sorted it..

Oh BTW hows the gx going? can you pass my number on to brendan? nmaybe we could catch up 0273247009

hey
if you haven't already.... empty out the overflow to about half full and see if it does it
might just be the water heating up and going in the overflow like it should.. but if its already full its gonna overflow
