The electronic speed sensor is on top of the gearbox, it has three wires. Unplug it and then unscrew the sensor. You will see the stub of the driven shaft looking at you. Try to turn it with a screw driver LIGHTLY. If it turns the internal gears are stripped.
Also look close at the speed sensor you removed. Sniff it (seriously) to see if it smells burn't. I've seen these melt before. Make sure the shaft turns smooth.
Reinstall it carefully as you need to get the small shaft aligned with the slot right.
If you find nothing we can look further.
